24 OCTOBER 1942

Through our performance, we want to honor their memory and recall their extraordinary heroism and this great deed.

On 24 October 1942, most of the civilians who helped Czechoslovak paratroopers with the preparation of the assassination of Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich were executed in the Mauthausen concentration camp. The story of the assassination itself, everything that preceded it, and its climax in the crypt of the church of Cyril and Methodius, is the main content of our performance.
These days, especially in the Czech Republic, we are slightly confused with the concept of heroism. As if it wasn’t entirely fashionable. That is why we thought it important to pay tribute to all the people who participated in the preparation of the assassination.
We couldn’t imagine how to classically stage the story of the assassination of the Reich Protector Heydrich, so we chose the form of a scenic collage from the books of two foreign authors: from the novel “HHhH” by the French writer Laurent Binet and the book of feuilletons “Make Your Own Paradise!” by the Polish journalist Mariusz Szczygieł. We wanted to remind you how much this assassination still resonates in the world.
Our scenic collage is complemented by several video and audio clips that enhance and approximate the real atmosphere of the time and the protectorate.

The performance may supplement the curriculum of Czech history of the 20th century, suitable for 9th grade and secondary school children.
