How did the machinery of state power work? How many desperate escape attempts did the Iron Curtain between West and East witness? And the ruined lives this dark age has produced?
We know the biographies of heroes from history books. The lives of their loved ones, often equally dramatic, remain in the shadows. The fate of the daughter and husband of the politician Milada Horáková comes to life in a popular historical podcast. We follow a slice of the lives of Jana Horáková and her father Bohuslav. Their attempts to reach freedom, or at least to keep it within themselves.
This is the second title in an irregular dramaturgical line of documentary theatre based on real historical events. Like the show simply named October 24, 1942, this new title will focus on the theme of resistance against totalitarian regimes - but this time it will be about the Third Resistance in the 1950s. How did the machinery of state power work? What did it take for a man guilty of nothing more than his opinion or his family background to get caught in the gears of tyranny? How many desperate escape attempts did the Iron Curtain between West and East witness? And the ruined lives this dark age has produced?
The educational component mixes with the theatrical experience. The production will also be part of a broader educational project that will offer students in their final year of primary school, secondary school or apprenticeship a comprehensive insight into the issue and will combine the artistic experience with guided tours of the former Káznice on Cejl Street, presentations of the fate of the memorials or discussions with experts.
The Radost Theatre is cooperating on this project with both the Káznice Lives! association and the Post Bellum - Memory of the Nation association.
